MAY FISHING REPORT

May has been an excellent month, especially for redfish. Lots of great tournaments, good weather, and a lot of excitement building for next month, as you’ll see in the forecast. Here are some pictures from May at the Sea Hag Marina.

These are the results from the Fishing for Vision Charity Tournament:

Trout:

1st Place Trout – Ethan Presnell, 2.45lbs

2nd Place Trout – Aubrey Hart, 2.41lbs

3rd Place Trout – Roger Cox, 2.11lbs

4th Place Trout – Richard Crews, 2.07lbs

5th Place Trout – Kevin Rogers, 2lbs

Redfish:

1st Place Redfish – Jesse Dowling, 7.91lbs

2nd Place Redfish – Bradley English, 7.61lbs

3rd Place Redfish – Skyler Hanna, 7.58lbs

4th Place Redfish – Garrett Smith, 7.50lbs

5th Place Redfish – Ryan Tomlinson, 7.17lbs

Most Spots – Steve English, 20 spots

Jr. Angler Trout:

1st Place Trout – Beau Ivey, 2.18lbs

JUNE FORECAST

Two big happenings this month. First, scallop season opens in our area on June 15! If you haven’t already planned to come, you better start now. It’s like Christmas in June; lots of people having fun, a new Tiki Bar will be open, and you will have a wonderful time. Most rentals are taken, but call the Marina for our lodgings. The limits will change after July 1, as noted below. If you have never tried taking your family scalloping, it’s an amazing fun experience for all ages of kids that can swim. June 15-30:

Per person: 1 gallon whole bay scallops in shell or one cup shucked 

Per vessel: 5 gallons whole or two pints shucked

July 1-Labor Day

Per person: 2 gallons of whole bay scallops in shell or 1 pint of bay scallop meat

Per vessel: Maximum of 10 gallons of whole bay scallops in shell, or 1/2 gallon bay scallop meat (1/2 gallon = 4 pints)

 

And finally, red snapper season opens June 17th for recreational fishermen and June 1st for hired guide trips. As of now, the current recreational openings this year for the gulf are:

 

June 17 – July 31
Oct. 8 & 9
Oct. 15 & 16
Oct. 22 & 23
Nov. 11, 12 & 13
Nov. 25, 26 & 27

2 per person (included in the 10 per harvester per day state snapper aggregate bag limit)

Charter captain and crew: zero

Doug Johnson Reeling for Kids Tournament (weigh-in at Good Times) June 10, 11.
