    This Week's Steinhatchee Report 3/10/00
    Finally Nice Trout!
Finally some nice trout!  The trout are really starting to bite on the flats FINALLY!  Folks have been really landing them with the ReAction Lure called Vibrafin especially in the chartreuse color.  Live shrimp is also working well and of course many of the top water lures such as 5M Mirrolures, Top Dogs, and Bomber Long 'A'.
Grouper are still doing rather well although some days are complete shutouts!  Try trolling the new stretch 30+ with the Mylar foil inside.  These should also be a hit during Kingfish season which will come shortly with the warm weather.  Most folks have been going rather deep for the Grouper averaging about 45ft.
    Some more fine grouper!
    More Sheepshead on Steinhatchee Reef!
The Sheepshead are still awesome on Steinhatchee Reef.  Use a super strong hook and a 1oz sinker to get the line to the bottom structure that house these tricky mouth fish.  Be ready at all times to set the hook since these fish are notorious for stealing bait.  Use live shrimp for best results!
These grouper were caught not so far out from Steinhatchee.  If you care to try bottom fishing use a 7/0 or 8/0 hook with a 6oz to 80oz egg weight tied in a sliding fashion between two swivels.  Use frozen Sardines, Herring, or Cigar Minnows or the best yet, live pinfish!
Fred Andrews and crew catch grouper!
