Fishing Report for August 2024

Even though hurricane Debbie passed right through Steinhatchee, our town did much better than during last year’s storm. Our great staff had the Sea Hag marina up and running within two days. As always after a lot of summer rain, that impacted the scalloping as we near the end of the scallop season. Darkened water meant that we had to make  runs farther north to find clear water. However, there were still plenty of scallops to be found. That amount of fresh water also impacted the insure fishing. Some redfish were caught on outgoing tides near creek mouths, especially using cut bait. Trout were out in deeper clear water.

Here are a few pictures from this month’s catches:

Fishing Forecast for September 2024

After a hot, stormy summer, fisherman are getting ready for fall. The dark and water will clear within a few weeks. Schools of large redfish have already been seen near the shore and they will continue to school and feed while they prepare for their offshore migration in the fall. As the temperatures come down, trout will move back onto the shallower flats, and we will return to popping courts with live shrimp or Gulp baits on jigs as the best way to catch keeper size trout. For the larger, more solitary trout, fish early morning, near shorelines and schools of white bait. Offshore, gag grouper season opens September 1 and red snapper season will be open every weekend during the fall

There are 4 tournaments taking place at the marina in September. For further information about any of these tournaments, please call our Ship’s Store.

The Lady Raiders inshore tournament on September 7

A real community event, the Sea Hag Marina Trash Tournament, as part of world cleanup day, will take place on September 14.

The Florida redfish series championship, a two day tournament, takes place on September 20 and 21st

The Casting for Christ tournament takes place on September 28.

We are looking forward to a great fall fishing season. We want to thank everyone for their support during the cleanup after the storm and we’re looking forward to seeing you real soon at the marina.
